Duplex Steel Pipes and Tubes are called as “duplex”, for the reason that they have a two-segment microstructure that consists of grains of austenitic and ferritic steel. When Duplex steel is being melted it hardens from the liquid segment to a totally ferritic formation. As the material gets cool down to room temperature, approximately half of the ferritic grains make over to austenitic grains (“islands”). Well, the outcome is a microstructure of approximately 50 percent of austenite and 50 percent of ferrite. Super Duplex Steels are roughly twice as powerful as standard austenitic or ferritic steels.
